Casa Goizeder

The Village

ESPINAL (part of Municipality of Erro) Administrative Council.

Economic activity: Agriculture, stockbreeding and high-quality wood industry. Espinal is one of the most beautiful villages of the Pyrenees and it has been awarded with several prizes throughout history. It was founded by Theobald II in the year 1269, who wished to settle the area between Burguete and Viscarret.

The village was burnt down by the French in the 17th century. It is surrounded by a stunning beauty that fascinated Ernest Hemingway during his visit to Pamplona.

Today, thousands of pilgrims can be seen passing by the village’s main street as part of their route to Santiago de Compostela.

The current population of the village is around 220 inhabitants.
